Message of Commissioner, NVS on the occasion of the
Principals’ Conference
A warm greetings to all of you. I regret that I am not able to be present amidst you on this important occasion when important issues concerning JNVs are being discussed. However, I would like to re-emphasize the following points which I had mentioned before you on earlier occasions:-
1. You, as Principals of the Vidyalaya are pivotal functionaries in the management structure. A strong, committed and hard working Principal would provide the necessary leadership to the entire team of teachers, staff and students in each Vidyalaya.
2. The need for having a strong spirit of team work and cooperation among all especially the teaching staff and the non-teaching staff with clear vision and objectives would take each Vidyalaya forward. In order to build up a strong team, a democratic process and mechanism are required to be put in place. Too much authoritarian style of functioning especially on the part of Principal would not promote long lasting team spirit, and the necessary cooperation from all would be missing. Only through sharing of ideas and thoughts and the discussion and discourse, a consensus on important issues should be evolved. When the views and suggestions of teachers and staff are accepted, they would not only own the responsibility, but also they would work hard with more commitment.
3. JNVs are emerging as leading schools in the country competing well with the best school system. We are required to march forward to be ahead of others. How do we move ahead of others? We should be alert and aware of what is happening not only in our immediate surroundings but also in the whole world. The world has become smaller because of technology. Any event happening in any corner of the world has impact on the other parts of the world. For example, if the students in China start learning English and IT very quickly and well, the pre-eminent position being enjoyed by India in IT by India in IT sector may be lost.
4. There is no substitute for hard work. Everybody, especially the Principals have to work hard and be the role models for Vice-Pricipals, teachers and students. There should also be transparency in all procedures and processes in the management. There should be constant communication with all stakeholders.
5. The need for creation of the Vidyalaya website needs no further emphasis. In this age of information technology, all important communications and information should be made available on the website. Academic results as well as non-academic performance of the students also should be made available on the website.
6. We are expecting 100% pass percentage in both class X and XII CBSE Board examination during the current year. I am sure, you must be taking all necessary steps to achieve this goal.
7. The target of 100% increase in registration for JNVST should have been achieved now. I congratulate those Principals and teachers who have done good works for this success.
8. I would also like to urge upon all Principals and teachers to make use of IT in class room activities especially in teaching learning process. Those teachers who have been trained should necessarily prepare the lessons on power point presentation and use it in class room. The teachers who are able to develop contents by using resources from the website and other sources should develop them and share with other colleagues. The efficacy of using IT in education is known to everybody and it should be used progressively.
I am sure, your wisdom and inquisitive thinking will result in formulating new strategies to take the Jawahar Navodaya Vidyalayas ahead of others.
I wish the Conference a Success.
