As envisaged in National Policy of Education (NEP), 1986, Govt. of India has set up co-educational, residential institutions named Jawahar Navodaya Vidyalayas which are spread over 34 States/UTs excluding Tamil Nadu. At present, 515 such Vidyalayas are functioning one in each district.
The main objective of these Vidyalayas is to provide quality education to the children pre-dominantly from rural areas. It has been decided to fill up the vacant seats available in Class XI in JNVs.
Applications are invited from eligible students for admission to Class XI in JNVs of the district against the vacant seats which are likely to be available during the academic year 2005-06. The admissions will be carried out on the basis of the performance of students in Board Examinations such as CBSE for State Education Board.
The students seeking admission in Class XI shall be within the age limit of 14-18 years as on Ist July, 2005.
The candidates must have passed Class X from a recognised school, affiliated to CBSE or any other Education Board of the District where the JNV is located during the academic session 2005-06.
For admission in Class XI, criteria of CBSE/other Education Board marks should be opted. The merit list will be prepared accordingly and the admissions will be given as per the seats available in the JNVs.
The candidates must have reasonable competency in English, Hindi for Science and Mathematics and for Humanities and Commerce respectively.
The Prospectus-cum-Application form containing detailed instructions can be obtained free of cost from the office of Principal, Jawahar Navodaya Vidyalaya and office of District and Block Education Officers of the District. Application forms can also be downloaded from our office website http://www.navodaya.nic.in. Neatly typed and Xeroxed copy of the application can also be used for applying.
Application forms filled in all respect are to be submitted to the office of Principal, Jawahar Navodaya Vidyalaya of the concerned District either through Registered Post or in person by ___________________________ (to be decided by RO).
PROSPECTUS-CUM-APPLICATION FORM FOR ADMISSION OF STUDENTS IN CLASS XI AGAINST VACANT SEATS
1.0 Notification
The Navodaya Vidyalaya system is a unique experiment unparalleled in the annals of school education in India. Its significance lies in the selection of talented rural children as target group and the attempt to provide them with quality education comparable to the best in a residential school system. Such children are found in all sections of society and in all areas including the most backward. It was felt that children with special talent or aptitude should be provided opportunities to proceed at a faster pace by making good quality education available to them.
2.0 Objectives of the Scheme
2.1 To provide good quality education to the children.
2.2 Developing harmonious growth of the personality of the children through variety of co-curricular activities.
2.3 Creating the environment to bring out the best among the teachers and students.
2.4 Adopt modern education techniques external and internal accountability, effective leadership linkages with the local community.
2.5 Art in education programmes to provide opportunities to students to inculcate nationalistic values through sharing and learning traditional skills and arts with the help of renowned traditional artists.
2.6 The built in mechanism of self reliance, self evaluation, character, rigour and discipline in academic pursuit.
2.7 Freedom of experimentation and innovation.
3.0 State wise distribution of Jawahar Navodaya Vidyalayas :
3.1 As per the provisions of the Scheme, one Jawahar Navodaya Vidyalaya is to be set up in each district. At present, there are 515 Jawahar Navodaya Vidyalayas spread over 34 States and UTs.
4.0 Admission of Students to Class XI against vacant seats
NVS has decided admission of students against available vacancies at the level of Class XI on the basis of marks secured by students in Class X Board Exam. While giving admission to the students, following points will be kept in view :
4.1 A student who has appeared in Board Examination in Class X from CBSE, or from any State Board is not required to undergo any entrance test for his/her admission to Class XI.
4.2 The NVS may admit the students in Class XI on the basis of the marks obtained by them in Class X CBSE Board/any other State Board. The students will be admitted on merit basis against vacant seats.
4.3 The selected students will be informed by the Principal of the concerned JNV by registered post.
4.4 Candidates are required to enclosed photocopies (duly attested by the Head of the Institution last attended) in support of their qualification, caste etc. The Principal of the concerned JNV will verify these information furnished by the candidates from original certificates at the time of admission.
4.5 The admission in Class XI will be completed latest by 15th July, 2005 and the Principals, immediately thereafter, will submit the status report to the concerned regional office/Hqrs.
4.6 The newly admitted students have to undergo medical check up by the Vidyalaya doctor. Students suffering from infectious disease/serious ailments shall not be admitted.
4.7 Ten days orientation programme will be arranged for newly admitted students to bridge the learning gaps and to adapt them for new environment.
5.0 Scheme of Studies :
Streams available in Jawahar Navodaya Vidyalaya will be allotted to students as per the following criteria :
I. Aggregate marks in Class X : 45%
II. Science : A minimum of 50% marks
III. Mathematics : A minimum of 45% marks
IV. Science and Mathematics put together : A minimum of 100 marks
I. Aggregate in Class X : 45 %
II. Science : A minimum of 50%
There is no restriction of marks in offering these streams. However, if Mathematics has to be offered as a paper under these streams, then a minimum of 45% of marks in Mathematics is compulsory.
6.0 Relaxation of marks for admission to Science/Commerce Streams in Class XI
It may be ensured that weightage is given to the eligible Sports/NCC/Scout/Guide students for admission to various streams in Class XI in accordance with the following norms :

7.0 Reservation
7.1 Reservation of total seats in Class XI for various categories will be stipulated as per the following criteria:

7.2 If 75% rural candidates are not available, seats will be distributed to urban students subsequently. A rural candidate will be one who passes Class X from the recognised school situated in rural area.
7.3 Three percent seats will be kept reserved for physically handicapped students.
8.0 HOW TO APPLY FOR ADMISSION IN CLASS XI IN JAWAHAR NAVODAYA VIDYALAY :
8.1 The Principal of the concerned JNV shall work out vacancies in various streams of Class XI immediately on receipt of CBSE result in respect of his Vidyalaya.
8.2 The vacant seats available in each JNV will be notified in local newspaper by the concerned JNV.
8.3 The Prospectus-cum-Application form containing detailed instructions can be obtained free of cost from the office of Principal, Jawahar Navodaya Vidyalaya and office of District and Block Education Officers of the District. Application forms can also be downloaded from our office website http://www.navodaya.nic.in. Neatly typed and Xeroxed copy of the application can also be used for applying.
