(b)      The history of wars & Conflicts and understanding of Peace in this context.

 

(c)       New Perspectives & Understanding of Peace in the absence of war : non violent social systems, capacity to live together in harmony

 

                        (d)      Forms of violence in our social system : Hunger, injustice

                                    the fundamental challenge to Humanity posed by cutting edge technology, genetic manipulation

 

(e)             Peace Movement gains global momentum: National & International initiatives for Peace.

 

 

Sub theme II            :           Peace in the School

 

(a)             School as a Nursery of Peace.

(b)             Physical & Emotional violence in schools

(c)             Aspects of Present School System that cause stress/disturbance  & violence.

 

(i)                 examinations

(ii)        corporal punishment

(iii)     Excessive competition (iv) greed, selfishness, authoritarian streak, rebellious nature, (v) Media induced violence (vi) Violence in the system

 

(D)      Conflict Resolution in Schools

 

·               Understanding the attitudes that cause violence

·               Alternatives to violence, dealing with conflict constructively, cooperatively and non-violently.

·               Conflict Mapping – to understand better the various aspects related to conflicts

·               Which are the parties involved in the conflict

-         What are their major points of disagreement

-         What are the skills needed to address the problem – eg communication skills
