Art in Education Programme
One of the Objectives of the Navodaya Vidyalaya Samiti, an autonomous organization with the Ministry of Human Resource Development, Government of India is to provide good quality modern education including a strong component of culture and inculcation of values. The objectives of Navodaya Vidyalayas, to promote national integration and enrich the social content, are fulfilled through its Art in Education Programme which facilitates an understanding and appreciation of the common and composite heritage of our people among students. Under this programme, eminent personalities from the fields of literature, arts, theatre, and sciences are invited to interact with students who are given training in traditional art forms under the tutelage of traditional Gurus and contemporary artists and experts. Theatre Directors conduct workshops organized at school level. The activities culminate in the Navodaya Regional Level National Integration Meets.

Navodaya Vidyalaya Samiti is held its National Integration Meet in 2011 at the India Islamic Cultural Centre, New Delhi, on the theme, “Hope Through Education”
Hon'ble Minister, Human Resource Development and Information & Communications Technology Govt. of India Sh. Kapil Sibal was the Chief Guest at the National Integration Meet Programme on 12 Nov. at 11:00 a.m. at the India Islamic Center. Secretary, S.E. & L, Smt. Anshu Vaish, was the Guest of Honour.
The National Integration Meet of Navodaya Vidyalaya Samiti reflected the spirit of nurturing and educating young people. The goal of various activities of the event this year awakened students towards the contribution made by traditional arts of Indian society, and promoted the spirit of humanism & National Integration.
About 400 Navodaya Vidyalaya students participated with their Teachers and Traditional Gurus. Delhi school children were also invited to participate in the Students Seminar and gave their views on “Hope through Education & on the “Role of Positive Thinking”.
Some of the rare folk dances and music of rural India were presented at the Navodaya National Integration Meet.
Dhol Cholom from Manipur, a dance with drums, Cheraw, a fine dance of balance and rhythm, with clicking bamboo sticks Chau, masked dance from Purulia, the snake Charmers dance from Rajasthan, Triveni Sangama: Folk Rythms, of Kamsale, Thamate & Nagari: the infinite beauty & rhythm of India was there on display JNVs in Kinnaur in Bastar, Tribal Jharkhand and Bengal to the Tribal Sabarkantha of Gujarat, sent their student representatives, to NI Meet.
Hon’ble Minister for Human Resource Development, Sh. Kapil Sibbal expressed his appreciation for the programme & granted Rs. 25,000/- to each participating school for promotion of Art Activities – (List of 55 schools attached)
National Integration Meet
Major Activities.
The major creative activities organized were:
· Traditional Performing Art, youth Choir and Theatre Festival.
· Student Seminar, Creative Writing and Poetry Recitation on “Navodaya: A Ray of Hope”.
· Art Exhibition and live demonstration of selected Traditional Arts & Crafts.
